At the center of the mesmerizing rolling meadows, lived a boy named Shepherd. His life was untarnished, simple, and honest. His primary duty was to look after his flock of sheep.

Their soft bleating and the murmuring of the wind through the solo tree on the mountaintop were his only associates. Day upon day, looking out for his wards imbued in him a sense of calm satisfaction.

However, there were at times moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would pine for companionship. During one such occasion out of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy devised a naughty plot.

Stories of wolves here hunting on sheep had been heard times and again in the village. So, the boy opted to leveraged this fear and played a trick on the townsfolk.

One afternoon he raced into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The scared villagers rushed up the hills for rescue but found nothing threatening.

The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This game persisted for a few more days. But, one noon, a real wolf did come to prey the flock. The shepherd boy ran for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but could rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the town only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the repercussions of false alarms.

The story of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once lost, is tough to reclaim. It's a story as pertinent today as it was then.
